SPCA Suncoast New Port Richey – Good News – Fannie is adopted – Roxanne needs a home!

Roxanne is an 8 year old black cat originally adopted from the SPCA Suncoast as a 2 year old. At that time, she came to us with only 1 eye and we do not know what  happened to her. She was returned to us in November as her family was moving and couldn't take her.  The family let us know that in 2005 Roxanne’s tail had gotten caught in a door and part of it had to be amputated.  Despite all of these problems, Roxanne is an affectionate, cuddly cat who likes to be petted. She likes to play with catnip mice and feathers and, when she is happy, will kiss your nose. Roxanne doesn’t like to have her picture taken as she feels she isn’t very photogenic but, if you meet her in person, you will fall in love. She is at the SPCA Suncoast. We are located at 7734 Congress St, New Port Richey and our adoption hours are noon- 6 PM, Weds through Sunday. Because Roxanne is a Priority Pet, her adoption fee $50 is which includes spaying, micro chipping and up to date vaccinations.

Business Development Week Card Exchange & Mixer hosted by the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce

The West Pasco Chamber of Commerce is hosting Business Development Week at various venues all over the county Jan 26-31. The business card exchange and mixer was Wednesday evening at Timber Greens Clubhouse in New Port Richey. All you needed to get in was a business card (I know, I collected them). It was free event and there were lots of lovely door prizes. If you missed it, make a note to catch next years Business Developement Week. Tina Shelton and everyone at the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce has done an outstanding job of producing this entire week

Baker House-Elfers FL - The oldest cracker house in West Pasco

The Baker House was placed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1997.Known locally as the Baker House, this home was built in the early 1880's by Samuel Baker for his young family; he bought 40 acres of land at $1 per acre to grow oranges. Baker House has been lovingly restored and is opened once a month (third Saturday) to the public. All of this is made possible by the Elfers Centennial Garden Club, a great group of hard-working people. The main building houses a livingroom and bedroom downstairs, and two bedrooms upstairs. The staircase is narrow and short on head room; so if you go: duck. A lot of the furniture belonged to the Baker family. Kitchens were built separately because of the possibility of fire. Diane Galemmo in her very interesting and informative article in the Neighborhood News tells us why the houses were called "Cracker" Houses. The term "cracker" refers to cowboys who cracked their whips to move the cattle on. (And, I thought it had something to do with cheese!). If you get a chance on Feb 20, the Garden Club tells me that it will be open from 10am till 2pm so stop in; it's well worth the visit. It is located at 5754 Moog Rd., in Centennial Park. Centennial Park also houses the Anderson Home (also on the National Register of Historic Homes) and the Centennial Park Library.

A Rare Sight in New Port Richey FL - Ice on the Pond

We woke up to 28 degrees on Sunday morning; I looked outside and our pond had ice on it and so did the birdbath. My husband, the sweetie, heated some water to take out and defrost the birdbath. However, he didn't want to go back out to take this picture so I put on my snowsuit and this is what I got. Ice on the pond in New Port Richey, FL

Yes, it is ice. It was there again this morning but disappeared more quickly than it did yesterday. We are having a heat wave; it was 32 this morning and went all the way up to 44. I know all you guys up in the frozen north think we're wimps but really we are just not used to temps this low for a long period of time.
